The big day was upon them - the day they had prepared for, pouring over notebooks filled with facts and anecdotes about each other's lives, entire hours spent getting their stories straight (or, well, getting phenomenally side-tracked and talking about everything under the sun; Hisaya wasn't exactly good at prompting Alain to focus on important things again, and Alain was... Alain.) and going on 'dates' to familiarise themselves with the other and hopefully look natural when they acted as a couple.
Alain had no problems with the latter. Hisaya, however, had to be distracted or swept up in the moment or concentrate really hard to make it look truthful.

Alain walked out of luggage claim, trying to find Hisaya's walking pace and match it - he didn't want to be left behind and taking off ahead of Hisaya was a bad idea. For starters, he didn't even know how this future brother-in-law looked like. Both him and his fiance were actors but while Alain had an inkling of an idea when it came to Miss Belmont, he couldn't have said the same about her partner of choice.
Neck pillow still around his neck, he rubbed at his eyes, slipping his fingers underneath his sunglasses frame, and yawned.
"So how does he look like? Do you see him?" he asked Hisaya, looking around... but searching for a cafe instead of a possibly eager future-in-law-man.
He needed to wake up for good, be in top shape, get some caffeine in his system and make sure neither one of them blew it from the very beginning.
Fucking jet lag.

They had prepared, extensively so. Hisaya did not feel prepared. In fact, he felt less prepared than he did before their "review session" and as they stepped off the plane, he counted himself lucky he remembered Alain's name.

At least it was Arthur picking them up and not his sister. Or his brother. Or god forbid his parents. Hisaya needed more time before he saw them with his supposed secret boyfriend. Preferably forever.

He would have slept on the plane if he could, but instead Hisaya was both exhausted and unable to calm his mind down. A bad combination to also act in love on top of it. Here was to hoping Arthur accepted "jetlag" as an excuse for possible slip ups.

"You know, he's... Arthur," Hisaya managed to come up with. "He's got dark hair, nice enough, somehow deals with my sister--" This description was straying from his physical appearance very quickly. "He's... oh, right over there." Hisaya spotted the man a ways away, then waved his hand in the air to get his attention as he led Alain towards him. He'd shout out the other's name, but doing so in a public space as a Belmont, even the most unrecognizable Belmont, wasn't a smart move.

Arthur had not been and still was not particularly happy about his future parents-in-law asking him to pick up Hisaya and his 'boyfriend', but because everyone else had been too busy to do so, he had agreed. On further consideration, he supposed that there were worse ways for Hisaya's boyfriend to get acquainted with the Belmont family, for he would not immediately be struck in the face with everything that came with being a Belmont. It would be a less painful introduction if he met another outsider first before diving into the world that still seemed to be very remote from Arthur's. Arthur was not very good when it came to meeting people, but he would concede that, at least. He had kept himself occupied during the wait by browsing websites for companies that sold men's white-collar suits and engagement rings. Those that he was looking at were affordable, but Arthur knew that the Belmonts wouldn't care for them. Too low-class, they would say; not quality enough. The suits weren't even bespoke. Well, to hell with that, was his response. The Belmonts were footing the bill for the wedding, inevitably, but this was his wedding as well as Selene's; he was not just a guest in attendance. Sometimes it was easy to forget that with the way the Belmonts were focusing on making it as luxurious and high-class as possible and the way they had wholly dismissed his objections to a hugely public ceremony, but Arthur would be damned if he didn't get at least something of himself in there. He happened to be looking up from his tablet when he saw a hand shoot up into the air and start waving. Shortly after that, he saw the face to whom it belonged, and at once, he turned his tablet off, rose up, and approached Hisaya. He had to push his way a little through the crowd to reach him, but it wasn't long before Arthur was standing before Hisaya and an unknown man who he assumed was his boyfriend. "Hisaya," he said in greeting to the first, smiling his usual small smile and nodding once. He looked at the other man and offered his hand. "And you're his boyfriend, I guess. Arthur Ifans, probably soon to be Arthur Belmont." He resisted the urge to roll his eyes. He and Selene still hadn't settled the matter of who was to change their surname. Selene was perhaps from too prominent a family to change her surname, but Arthur had already changed his once before, and Ifans was Welsh; Belmont was not. "It's a pleasure to meet you." He extended his hand. The calm impassivity of Arthur's face disguised his thoughts. You are a man I do not know, but like so many others, you are coming to witness something deeply personal for me. I do not like this, but what can I do? Arthur had always been well aware of the publicity that would surround his engagement and marriage to Selene, and he had been prepared to make some concessions, but as far as he was concerned, it was all getting rather out of hand. Was it really necessary to have two weddings, and for there to be so many guests, and for it to be an affair so luxurious that it would have bankrupted him if the Belmonts hadn't been paying for it? At once, he brushed the question off. He would get no answers to it. "Come on," he said. "We've got a bit of a walk before we get to my car." He set off, walking at his usual slow pace and shoving his hands in the pockets of his jacket as he did. As seemed to be requisite in these situations, after a brief pause, he added, "How was the trip?"

'Dark hair' and then Hisaya went off on a tangent that had little to do with physical attributes and more with "How do I describe this man to make him sound as generic as possible?"
Honestly, at that point Alain would've been happy with a "tall, dark and handsome". At least it would count as a lighthearted joke, something to ease their nervousness. Heavens knew they both had enough of that.
But Alain simply looked at his pretend boyfriend, trying to discern just how tired Hisaya was, how much his nerves were wrecking him, and whether this was going to be a failure from the first five minutes. Yes, they had practised this, but Alain got to know him enough that the option of Hisaya getting tired and coming clean no longer was an impossibility.
That was, of course, as long as Hisaya's stiff acting didn't blow their cover. It was pretty daunting to think that their thick skulls were going to attempt to act like they were in love in front of such a prestigious family, but especially in front of actual actors. That went to acting schools. That probably knew every trick of the trade.

When Hisaya spotted the famed fiance, Alain had no choice but to follow, dragging his luggage after him and trying to keep up.
Arthur looked affable enough, once he raised his eyes from the tablet. Kind eyes, cute hair. Alain idly thought Hisaya's sister (whose Google search results were insane and whose images all depicted this flawless woman) and him would have beautiful children, but he kept his mouth shut about that. Not the time nor place to get a weird compliment from an almost-stranger.

He put on the best thousand-watt smile he could muster through his tiredness and shook Arthur's hand. "Yeah! Hi, nice to meet you, too! I've heard lots of stuff about you!" He gave a short laugh at the 'Belmont' name change jab, but it occurred to him how he still hadn't introduced himself. "I'm Alain. Here as emotional support for this guy," and he turned his head to Hisaya, brightly smiling at him.
With some luck, maybe no one would call him "Allen".

Arthur prompted them to move and Alain put a spring in his step, looking at Hisaya to see what he would do - how fast was he going to walk, was he going to walk next to Arthurt, was Alain going to take Hisaya's free side then?
"The flight was ok. Minor turbulence but I think it's normal for this time of the year?" It was winter, after all. "I slept through most of it," Alain added as they left the airport and made their way to the parking lot. "But I don't think Hisaya was as successful. Were you?" he turned to ask Hisaya.

And here it was, the first of many first meetings between those associated with his family and Alain. His boyfriend. Supposedly. Hisaya felt his palms sweating already and it was just Arthur. Not even Selene.

He nodded in response to his name, and hopefully it didn't seem too stiff.

Alain, however, seemed perfectly at ease introducing himself and keeping up a conversation, and while Hisaya would feel bad if the other carried the talking the whole way there, he also knew if he opened his mouth the chances of him blowing it exponentially rose. Initially planning to keep his lips sealed and just nod along to Alain's mention of "emotional support" Hisaya he couldn't mess this up and added, "Yup, best support I could ask for. And Mom and Dad." That made no sense. "Mom and Dad... kept wanting to meet you. So I brought you, because of that too."

This was going great. Hisaya swallowed then coughed, and trailed a bit behind his future brother-in-law. He needed to breathe, and best Arthur didn't see him to let that happen.

Since he did not in fact sleep, Hisaya launched into the first thing that popped into his head. "Oh, no, I don't sleep." There was an awkwardly long pause before he registered what he just said. "I mean... I'm tired. Sorry Arthur, I'll be, uh, better by the wedding."
